The flexibility of digital tools enables their seamless integration into various phases of an instructional sequence. Within a framework that emphasizes the gradual transfer of responsibility from teacher to student (e.g., I do, We do, You do), technologies that facilitate student independence should be considered. We focus on tools that foster literacy development for two main reasons: (1) the critical role literacy skills play in learning and thinking demands our attention across content areas; (2) the literacy goals now interwoven throughout the new Common Core standards underscores the need to strengthen our approach to literacy instruction and integration.

Reading
The following apps can be utilized to support reading:

Blio	This eBook reader comes with a text-to-speech feature. Once you buy books from the Blio bookstore you can download whenever you like.
DRAGON	Dragon search is a great app that allows you to search online content on your iPhone by using your voice.
Firefly K3000	The Firefly K3000 app by Kurweii Educational Systems for the iPad delivers core text to speech reading functions including speed, voice and pacing accommodations.
Image to Speech	Image to Speech allows you to take a picture and then it reads the text out loud.
Read It	Read It a simple Text-To-Speech application that will read any text that is pasted on the application.

Notability 4	Notability 4 is a great note taking app that will link notes with audio recordings.
Ghostwriter	Need an app to take notes? Ghostwriter allows you to take notes and import documents and PDFs.

SoundNote	SoundNote Allows you to take notes and record audio at the same time.
